🦠 The world has changed forever after the COVID-19 pandemic happened, and it directly impacts all kinds of industries in the world. 🌎

 

The word ‘new normal’ can be defined as the changes of human behaviors and activities. There are many industries forced to overcome this unexpected catastrophe and challenge it as a golden opportunity to create something new; an art & culture industry is one of them. Places like art galleries and historical museums have to revolutionize the way people interact in the new normal era by utilizing cutting-edge technology ­– ‘Virtual Tour’.

What is a Virtual Tour?

Virtual tour is a sequence of panoramic image or video which is the simulation of an existing location around the world from the combination of VR and AR. The audiences are able to experience “around-the-world” fascinating locations via online.

 

During the self-quarantine period, many famous museums have created new projects – Virtual Museum Tour – providing the part of virtual tour on their website for the audiences to experience the sceneries, sculptures, and other historical arts from their homes.

📍The Vatican Museums, Rome

The Vatican Museums are the public historical art and classical sculpture museum that aim to present, preserve, and share treasurable legacies of culture, history, and beauty which are collections of art, archaeology, and ethno-anthropology gathered by Popes over centuries. A virtual tour of the museum grounds and iconic historical figures’ rooms are provided for the audiences, including Michelangelo’s ceiling in the Sistine Chapel.

📍The British Museum, London

The British Museum is the first national public museum of the world with more than 8 million objects from the diversity of human histories and cultures. The objects are collected from small communities to vast empires, including world-famous objects such as the ancient Rosetta Stone, Egyptian mummies, the Parthenon sculptures, and etc. The museum offers virtual tours using Google Street View technology by teaming up with the Google Cultural Institute.

📍The Musée d’Orsay, Paris

The Musée d’Orsay is a museum located in the center of Paris on the Banks of the Seine. The museum is housed in the former Gare d'Orsay railway station, and it displays collections of French arts, paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography from the period of 1848 to 1914. The audiences from around the world can virtually tour this museum to appreciate the impressionist and post-impressionist masterpieces from notable painters – Van Gogh.

📍The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) is a modern and contemporary art museum in South Korea which focuses on introducing global contemporary arts. There are not only the works of well-known artists, but also works of younger emerging artists are also  displayed. MMCA teamed up with the Google Cultural Institute providing virtual tours for audiences from anywhere around the world.

📍The Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam

The Rijksmuseum is the national museum of the Netherlands collecting world-famous masterpieces from the Dutch Golden Age, including Milkmaid by Vermeer and Rembrandt's Night Watch. The museum tells the story of 800 years of Dutch arts and histories from the year of 1200 until now. They are also one of the Google Cultural Institute partners which also offers the virtual tour to their audiences.
